PrepThe surface must be clean, dry and free of all loose or peeling paint and contaminants. Bare Concrete: Allow new surfaces to cure at least 30 days before painting. Clean and etch new or bare concrete with Valspar® Fast Prep® Cleaner, Degreaser & Etcher or a similar concrete preparation product. Follow all label instructions. After proper etching, the surface should feel like 120‐grit sandpaper and rapidly absorb water. To test absorption, spray various sections of the surface to be coated with water. If the water does not absorb rapidly, or if the surface does not feel like 120-grit sandpaper, then etch again. After etching, rinse the surface thoroughly and let dry for at least 24 hours. For increased adhesion of the topcoat to the surface, apply Valspar® Concrete Bonding Primer before painting, following label instructions. Bare Wood, Metal & Asphalt: All new or bare wood should be sanded and primed with Valspar® Concrete Bonding Primer. Remove rust and prime all iron and steel with a rust inhibitive metal primer. For new asphalt, allow the surface to weather 4-6 months prior to application. Do not apply over “shiny” asphalt or freshly applied, tar-emulsion asphalt sealers. Previously Painted/Stained Surfaces: Can be applied over water-based coatings that are properly cleaned and in good condition. Remove wax and grease with an all-purpose cleaner (TSP or substitute). Remove gloss from previously painted surfaces by sanding. If the existing coating is failing or peeling, use a paint stripper or wire brush to remove all old, peeling, flaking coating down to bare concrete. Spot etch any exposed concrete until it feels like 120-grit sandpaper and rapidly absorbs water. Rinse the surface thoroughly and let dry for at least 24 hours. It is recommended that previously painted or stained surfaces are primed with Valspar® Concrete Bonding Primer, following label instructions, before top coating. Clean Mildew from the Surface: Mildew is a fungus that looks like dirt but won’t wash off. Mildew must be removed before painting, or it will grow through any new coat of paint. To remove mildew or suspected mildew, scrub surface before painting with a commercial mildew remover following manufacturer’s safety instructions.

ApplicationMix well before and during use. Intermix all cans of the same color. Apply with a high-quality, polyester brush, or 3/8" or 1/2" nap roller. First Coat: Apply the product along any edges, corners or hairline cracks using a brush. For large areas, pour the product directly onto the surface in strips that are approximately 3" x 12" in size. DO NOT OVERAPPLY. After product has been poured onto the surface, or for small areas that don't require pouring, spread product evenly with a roller and finish with strokes in the same direction. For best results, apply in 3' x 3' sections and maintain a wet edge to prevent lap marks. Allow to dry at least 3 hours before applying second coat. A MINIMUM OF TWO COATS IS REQUIRED. Second Coat: Apply second coat at right angle to the first coat in a criss-cross pattern. Two coats are usually sufficient. However, extremely porous or dark colored surfaces may require a third or fourth coat for a uniform appearance and proper hide. Allow 3-4 hours dry time between each coat. Discard used roller covers. Do not allow water to pond or puddle on newly painted surfaces
